This is Elon Musk's take on ChatGPT

Elon Musk has announced that he plans to launch an artificial intelligence (AI) platform called "TruthGPT" to rival those offered by Google and Microsoft, including the Microsoft-backed OpenAI and its chatbot, ChatGPT. In an interview with Fox News Channel's Tucker Carlson, Musk criticised OpenAI, claiming the firm had trained its AI to lie and had become a for-profit organisation closely allied with Microsoft. He also accused Google co-founder Larry Page of not taking AI safety seriously. Musk has been recruiting AI researchers from Google to launch a start-up to compete with OpenAI.

Musk stated that TruthGPT will be a "maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe" and "might be the best path to safety" while being "unlikely to annihilate humans". Musk has previously warned of the dangers of AI, stating that it has the potential to cause "civilizational destruction" and can write well and potentially manipulate public opinions. Musk has also warned about the risks of developing AI systems that are more powerful than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but stepped down from the company's board in 2018. He left the company citing Tesla and SpaceX competition for the same people and not agreeing with OpenAI's aims. Musk has recently registered a firm called X.AI Corp in Nevada, listing himself as the sole director, and Jared Birchall, the managing director of Musk's family office, as secretary.

Musk's plans come after Microsoft announced a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI in January. In the interview, Musk also spoke about his acquisition of Twitter for $44bn last year, stating that he recently valued the platform at less than half the acquisition price. Musk's comments have caused a stir in the AI industry, with many wondering whether TruthGPT will pose a significant challenge to established players like Microsoft and Google.

It remains to be seen what approach TruthGPT will take to AI and whether it can compete with the established players. However, Musk's reputation as an innovator and his past successes in the tech industry suggest that he is well placed to challenge the incumbents. While AI is seen as having the potential to change the world for the better, it is also a double-edged sword, with the risks of misuse and unintended consequences. As such, the emergence of new players in the market could have a significant impact on the future of AI and how it is developed and used.
